The reading and derivation of veṭhamissena are unclear. Veṭha means “twist, strap, turban”. Missa means “mixed” or “plaited” (Bu Ss 2:2.1.21. Thus it probably refers to a kind of strong twisted material used to tie or bind, i.e. rope.
