சுயாதீனமாயிருப்பவர்களுக்கு கலக்கம் இல்லை. கலக்கம் இல்லாதபோது அமைதி கிடைக்கும். அமைதி இருக்கும்போது மனதில் எந்த ஓட்டமும் இல்லை. ஓட்டம் இல்லாதபோது வரவும் போகவும் இல்லை. வரவும் போகவும் இல்லாதபோது மறைவதும் மறுபிறப்பும் இல்லை. மறைவதும் மறுபிறப்பும் இல்லாதபோது இந்த உலகமோ அல்லது அதன் பின்னான உலகமோ அல்லது இரண்டிற்கும் இடையிலானவோ இல்லை.
இதுவே துன்பத்தின் முடிவாகும்.

"Mahā" means great, surpassing. "Kāla" means time, darkness, emptiness. Mahākāla transcends time and space.
